DETROIT (FinalCall.com) - In an ironic and tragic sequence of events, funeral services for shooting victim Je'Rean Blake Nobles, age 17, took place within “The First 48” hours of the funeral for seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones who was killed in a police raid that was being filmed by a crew from the A&E series, “The First 48”. Police said the raid was conducted as part of a search for Je'Rean's alleged killer.

Family, friends and a host of schoolmates from Southeastern High School filled Triumph Church in Detroit to say goodbye to the popular teen fondly know as “Blake.” Weeks away from graduating, Je'Rean was allegedly shot and killed by Chauncey Owens, 34, for reportedly looking at Mr. Owens the “wrong way.”

With Chief of Police Warren Evans by his side Detroit Mayor Dave Bing used the somber occasion to speak to a wave of violence that has killed too many young people in the city. “All the young people in Detroit are part of my family (and) God has put me in this place at this time to make a difference and I intend to honor that,” said the mayor.

Acknowledging the perilous conditions that exist, Mayor Bing reached out to leaders and organizations across the city saying, “Our community is at a crossroads and we all have to recommit our lives to protect our young folk.”

Detroit is again faced with bringing purpose out of tragedy. Lyvonne Cargill says she is determined that her son, Je'Rean Demonte “Blake” Nobles, not die in vain. She wants the man who killed her son brought to justice and fears her son's death may be forgotten or ignored.
