More
troops in Afghanistan, greater fear of wider war
THE WHITE HOUSEThe deployment of thousands of U.S. Marines on the ground
in Afghanistan may be the prelude to an even wider war of conquest rather
than the conclusion of Americas war on terrorism, President George W.
Bush warned. The American people must understand that weve got a
long way to go in order to achieve our objective in this theater, Mr.
Bush told reporters during a Rose Garden greeting for two aid workers
rescued recently from Afghanistan.

Mumia loses
appeal
PHILADELPHIAThe day before
Thanksgiving, a Philadelphia judge denied a state court appeal for Mumia
Abu-Jamal. Mr. Jamal was convicted of killing city police officer Daniel
Faulker in 1982 and given the death penalty. Since that time Mr. Jamal, an
award-winning journalist and ex-Black Panther, has emerged as an
international cause for death penalty opponents, who argue he did not have
a fair trial and is innocent.
Russell Simmons tells it all
NEW YORKIn his new tell-all
book, rap mogul Russell Simmons has a simple message: You dont have to
spend years doing sex and drugs to get what you want out of life. That
message from the 44-year-old chairman/CEO of Rush Communications, founder
and/or co-founder of several businessesincluding Def Jam Records, Def
Comedy Jam, Def Poetry Jam, Phat Farm clothing, and Rush advertisingis
far different from the material bling-bling excesses often depicted in
rap videos and music.
CBC: U.S. blocks loans to Haiti,
disaster looms
THE WHITE HOUSELife for the
people of Haitithe poorest in the Western Hemisphereis spiraling
downward toward horrendous outcomes, the 38-member Congressional Black
Caucus warned President George W. Bush in a letter requesting a meeting.
Mr. Bush is very attentive to the concerns raised by individual members
of the Black Caucus, presidential Press Secretary Ari Fleischer told
reporters Nov. 20, but he offered no promise that a meeting would be
scheduled and no answer to one of the chief complaints of CBC members.
