Future
of Black voting power witnessed in Election 2000
While candidates Al Gore and George W. Bush
face-off for the seat of president, the massive turnout to the polls by
Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, Arab Americans, and Asians across
America have confirmed an important fact: They are a political force to be
reckoned with. What does this mean? In the future, those political powers
that do not incorporate the ethnic agenda into the national agenda may
find themselves unseated and powerless.

U.S.
role as honest broker in Mideast challenged
UNITED NATIONS (IPS)When Yasser Arafat
was asked what he plans to do about the rising violence in the West Bank
and Gaza, the Palestinian leader pointedly blamed the military excesses on
the Israelis. Traditionally, the United States has tried to play the role of the
honest broker in mediating the dispute between Israelis and
Palestinians, and also between Israelis and Arabs. But
the billions of dollars in U.S. economic and military aid doled out to
Israel every year$1.9 billion in outright military grants and $1.2
billion in economic aidclearly signal a far greater U.S. commitment to
Israel than to the Palestinians.

Cops found guilty of misconduct;
forces federal oversight
LOS ANGELESJust one day after an
ethnically diverse jury of five men and seven women convicted
three Los Angeles Police Department officers of obstructing
justice, fabricating charges against two gang members, and
falsifying police reports, an alternate jurors charge of jury
misconduct could mean a retrial and reversed verdicts.

Williams, a top aid to the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
died from an infection related to his treatment of kidney and
prostate cancer on November 16 in Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital.
As an advocate of Dr. King's nonviolent protest movement, Mr.
Williams was often sent by the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference in advance of marches and demonstrations organized across
the south, in the fight to sway public opinion to support laws
granting Blacks public accommodations and voting rights.

Organize
and Mobilize Part II
by
Minister Louis Farrakhan
I believe that just as Moses smote a
rock and brought water forth, our leveraging of our unity on the side
of what is good can bring out of any of these candidates and their
parties what they under their present condition cannot give us. I just
want the people to come out and exercise that right and privilege to
vote. But after this, we intend to mobilize people so that we will not
have to make a decision between two evils. We will make a decision
between that which is good for the people by putting someone up that
is good for the people and then backing such a candidate.

When the strong man goes
by A. Akbar Muhammad
On December 7, 2000, the people of the
Republic of Ghana will go to the polls to elect a new President. There has
been controversy and much written about President Rawlings as he prepares
to move on. As a resident and a friend of the people of Ghana for the last
ten years, I must say that during the Rawlings administration from the
days of the PNDC (Provisional National Defense Council) to the NDC
(National Democratic Congress), Ghana has enjoyed nearly twenty years of
stability.
