occurs during Farrakhan's visit to island
KINGSTON, Jamaica�On a sunny Saturday
morning, history was made March 23, as the leader of the Nation of Islam
attended Sabbath services at the country�s only Jewish synagogue, during a
six-day trip to this island nation. Afterward he enjoyed a warm
welcome and friendly dialog with leaders of the host United Congregation
of Israelites as part of the bold step.

Muslim 'outrage' at government raids
WASHINGTON�Muslim officials and human rights activists reacted with shock
and outrage March 21 to a �McCarthy-style� raid on the homes and offices
of more than two dozen Muslim-operated businesses in suburban Northern
Virginia and in Georgia the day before. �This is a great tragedy,� Johari
Abdul-Malik, Islamic Chaplin at Howard University, told reporters. �In
mosques and Islamic centers around the country we�re calling them to raise
the issue of the civil rights violation of the American Muslim society.

NCNW
joins education dept. to close gap
WASHINGTON�The racial achievement gap in education will now be
tackled by a joint project between the Department of Education and
the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). Education Secretary Rod
Paige and Dr. Dorothy Height, chair and president emeritus of the
NCNW, joined forces March 19 to ignite a movement in communities
across the country to increase educational performance.
