L.A. set for
Saviours' Day
Five-day event to focus on healing
of humanity
NEWARKLike a number of domestic
issues, racial profiling and police brutality have taken a back seat to
the war on terrorism since September 11, 2001. Activists, however, say a
lack of media focus does not mean serious violations have ended.
What I am hearing from my people is that in the post September 11
environment, racial profiling and police brutality problems are getting
worse, said Ron Hampton, president of the National Black Police
Association, who is based in Washington, D.C. In particular, he has heard
of increased profiling of Blacks at airports and at border crossings
between Canada and Detroit.

Activists say Middle East policies unjust
WASHINGTONA
broad coalition of Black activists, Jews, Arabs, Muslims and Christians
gathered Jan. 15 at the National Press Club to challenge unbalanced U.S.
policy for Israel in the raging conflict with Palestinians. They demanded an end to Israeli military occupation in the region, as
well as an end to the violence perpetrated against Palestinians. They
believe meeting these demands are key to the establishment of a lasting
peace.

Half of Congress flunks NAACP civil rights

WASHINGTON (NNPA)More than half of the members of the U.S.

NAACPs civil rights report card. The Legislative Report Card covers issues considered important by the
NAACP for the first half of the 107th Congress, which recently
concluded. Although the Senate is controlled by Democrats and the House is
controlled by Republicans, a majority of members in each body received

'Black
Hawk' downed as racist, pro-war propaganda
Amid acclaim for the recently
released film Black Hawk Down, some activists have branded the
movie racist, pro-war propaganda. Larry Holmes, co-director of the
New York-based International Action Center, said the film
glorifies the Oct. 3, 1993 massacre of thousands of African
people in Mogadishu, Somalia by the U.S. Army.
