A Message from Minister Louis Farrakhan

Why is there a challenge to change? Eighteen months ago, by the Grace of God, I was on my deathbed. But God brought me back from that, and in it was produced in me a change. Sometimes the challenge to change is a painful experience because pain is the mother of growth; pain is the mother of change. When you know youve done something that brought pain, that pain is to tell you that it is time to change.

Bush meeting brings skepticism and hope

On Dec. 20, President-elect George W. Bush, Jr. called an interfaith gathering of approximately 30 members of the Islamic, Christian and Jewish communities in an effort to create dialogue and introduce his plans for faith-based initiatives from within the White House. Theres got to be priorities, George W. Bush responded when asked about Africa in the second U.S. presidential debate.

Africa did not make his short list: the Middle East, Europe, the Far East, and the Americas. A Bush presidency portends a return to the blatantly anti-African policies of the Reagan-Bush years, characterized by a general disregard for Black people and a perception of Africa as a social welfare case.

Can western-style democracy benefit Africa?

If we condemn the western system, then we are obligated to come up with a system that speaks more directly to the needs of the African people. The democratic system that is used in America sent a message to us that the country that is known as the leader of democracy in the world has its own problems, corruption, vote-counting fraud, and this was revealed to the whole world.
