More
questions, few answers from Florida hearing on vote problems
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.After two days of
hearings and some 30 witnesses, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights ended
up virtually at the same place where it began: It knew something went
wrong with voting in Florida during November presidential elections, but
couldnt affix blame, or even say the irregularities were deliberate.
First
Black woman since 1954 executed in the U.S. Anti-death
penalty activists pulled out every stop to save the life of Wanda Jean
Allen, 41, the first Black women executed in the United States since 1954
when Betty Butler was put to death in Ohio. Their efforts failed and Ms.
Allen was pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m. Jan. 11.

High amounts of
antibiotics in food chain signal major problems
WASHINGTON (IPS)Contrary to previous
estimates, the amounts of antibiotics used in animal agriculture dwarf
those used in human medicine, warns a new report by a public interest
organization. The high quantities of antibiotics used in the rearing
of pigs, cows and chickens is significant, says the Union of Concerned
Scientists (UCS), because of the growing specter of
antibiotic-resistant disease.

The
Challenge to Change -Part
II
by
Minister Louis Farrakhan
Beloved Muslims and Christians,
Nationalists and Pan-Africanists, no matter what your ideology is, if
we really want to be a family, if we really want to love each other,
if we really want to be one in God and one in Christ, then we have to
accept the challenge. If we lie and gossip and slander and fornicate,
if we covet our brothers wife or our sisters husband, if we do
the things that break apart the family, then we can sing and shout
together in church, but when you look in the mirror you have to
confess, Im a liar because I have not accepted the challenge to
change.
