WHO IS THE ORIGINAL MAN?
The above question is one of the first which confronts
us upon our decision to accept the Teachings of The Honorable Elijah
Muhammad, presented today by The Honorable Louis Farrakhan. The
correct answer begins, "The Asiatic Black Man..."
Immediately, those of us born in Americaor any
other bastion of white supremacyare beset with puzzlement. This
answer is in direct conflict with the little Sunday school tracts,
Christmas cards and picture Bibles with which we are familiar. These
always depict the supposed first parents as a blond-haired, blue-eyed,
pale-skinned couple. Then, by the time we are old enough to wonder
about our color, we are told the blatant lie that our Blackness is the
result of a curse placed on some of our ancestors because they
displeased God. Therefore, "White is right, so if youre Black, get
back."
The "Week in Review" section of the Sunday, June
3rd issue of THE NEW YORK TIMES features three race-related stories:
"True Colors: THE CONFUSION OVER WHO WE ARE", "Who Are You?: WHEN
PERCEPTION IS REALITY" and "Why Are You Here?: BRITAINS RACE PROBLEM".
While all of these articles intensify the question,
science writer Robert Lee Hotz brings the answer right down front in the
May 28th issue of the LOS ANGELES TIMES, with his article entitled,
"SEEKING THE PARENTS OF US ALL". A pull-quote atop the story states:
"Projects that compare DNA from thousands of living people suggest
everyone is descended from one African group." The first sentence of the
article begins, "We are an orphan species seeking the mother and father
we never knew." There is an accompanying map, with arrows indicating
that some 80,000 began to wander. The writer acknowledges that, "Some
scholars have theorized that anatomically modern Homo sapiens instead
arose through interbreeding among several regional groups, including a
more primitive species, Homo erectus, in Asia and Neanderthals in
Europe." He dismisses this, however, with the observation that, "In male
DNA, researchers have found the strongest evidence yet that all modern
humans are descended from a single group of people who migrated from
Africa and replaced all other human species without interbreeding."
"To help settle the debate," the writer concludes,
"a team of 22 researchers from four countries examined 12,000 men to
analyze the DNA in the Y chromosome that determines the male gender. The
men belonged to 163 population groups in such places as China, Iran,
Siberia and New Guinea, but all of them owed their prehistoric parentage
to Africa, the researchers demonstrated."
