We Have Met The Enemy, And He Is Us!
The heading of this column is a statement we are
borrowing from a world-renown cartoonist, Walt Kelly, which he
originally used in his best-known cartoon series, "POGO". We
deserve the right to use this quote, because it describes us even
better than the possum which voiced it in the comedy strip.
It never fails to sicken me when I read in
newspapers and magazines, or hear on radio and television, Black
spokespeople bemoaning our condition, and complaining about what
"they" wont do to change it. When the Europeans landed on
this continent, how far would they have gotten if they had waited to
see what the native inhabitants were going to develop and produce for
them?
Yes, it is truethey CAME, and we were BROUGHT!
The fact remains, we are all here. For a time, the chains of slavery
prevented us from advancing, but the chains have been off for a while.
Even though the Europeans were not in chains, they were at a
disadvantage simply by being strangers in a strange land. There were
obstacles to be overcome, not the least of which was being strangers
in a strange land, but they overcame them. The obstacles which are in
our path, of course, are greaterwhich is fine. Anyone who has ever
lifted weights will agree that the greater the weight you are able to
master, the stronger the muscles you are able to build. And, as
Minister Farrakhan continues to stress to us, every physical law has a
spiritual counterpart. A greater trial produces not only a greater
ability to accomplish, but a greater appreciation of the
accomplishment, once it is achieved.
The Europeans who settled this land were not
interested in equality with the original inhabitants, or they would
have remained in an inferior positionpossibly winding up serving
the original inhabitants. The underlying motivation for all their
actions was independenceor even better rulership!
No type or amount of legislation can ever give us
freedom, justice or equalityand we need all three. In fact we MUST
HAVE them! Let us study the animals in the zoo, and those who have
been domesticated so that they can serve their masters. Freedom
seldom, if ever, crosses their mind. Their every aspiration consists
of something which their master has, no matter how filthy and
destructive it may be. Once the master has complete control of their
desires, a captive no longer requires chains, locks or cages. If the
master takes him out and tries to lose him, he will usually find his
way back to the masters house, regardless of the obstacles.
If we are paying attention to the news media, we
know that hardly a week passes that some large corporation doesnt
lose billions of dollars in some financial quirk. Pay close attention
to the news and see the thousands of jobs which are being phased out
every day or two. It is no secret who will suffer most from such
occurrencesthe last hired are still the first fired!
We had better pay close attention to the program
being presented to us by The Honorable Louis Farrakhan, and get busy
putting it into motion, for the sake of our own survival. Believe me,
if we dont, nobody else will!
