“There are real anti-Semites in this country that hate the Jewish people and there is nothing wrong with monitoring a real anti-Semitic hate group. But when you have that intention for me and the Nation of Islam, then we have to charge you and challenge you to prove your claim,” declared the Minister, who delivered his address from the historic Final Call Building. The message aired June 8 at www.noi.org as the 22nd installment of his series.
“And if you cannot, and you cannot, then you are going to have to pay for all these years that you have poisoned the minds of the American people, destroyed progress of tens of hundreds of thousands of people and you thought you got away with it, not today.”
He detailed how enemies use the anti-Semitic lie to rally legal authorities to target anyone who would speak out and would like to ultimately paint the Nation of Islam as domestic terrorists.
The lie of anti-Semitism can never be substantiated but the Anti-Defamation League and its leader Abraham Foxman and groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center and staffer Mark Potok, repeat the lie, he added.
That label opens the door to criticism and targeting by police agencies, like F.B.I. and local law enforcement trained by the ADL on hate groups, said Min. Farrakhan. Disproportionate numbers of Jews in court systems are used to help legally assault those who refuse to bow, he added.
So freedom of speech rights are violated and squelched, instead of discussions and debate about controversial topics, noted Min. Farrakhan.
The anger of the synagogue of Satan is growing alongside the desire to bring us into court, said the Minister. He asked if plotting was going on now from the Justice Dept., and perhaps even the White House.
“What shall be done with Farrakhan? Are you amassing my scared to death Black brothers and sisters to cry out against me because of the inordinate amount of pressure that you’re putting on them now to denounce me as you did with my brother Congressman (John) Conyers? All of you that are willing to denounce me to find favor with your open enemies, you’re denouncing yourself in the process and losing favor with God,” he warned.
Government persecution of dissenters goes back to the FBI Counterintelligence program under J. Edgar Hoover but the wicked policies continue today, he said.
If Farrakhan and the Nation are last man standing against the Synagogue of Satan, which is concentrating its forces against us, the God we serve will answer and ultimately destroy your power, said Min. Farrakhan boldly.
A roll call of ‘anti-Semites?’
Black leaders Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, Marcus Garvey, Dr. Martin Luther King, the Hon. Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X and Kwame Toure (formerly Stokely Carmichael) have been labeled anti-Semites. The charge has also been thrown at South African leaders Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu and civil rights and political leaders Julian Bond, Andrew Young, Kweisi Mfume, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Joseph Lowery, and Black organizations like the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee and the Black Panther Party. Historians John Hope Franklin and J.A. Rodgers, writer Alice Walker, entertainment industry figures Michael Jackson, Arsenio Hall, Oprah Winfrey, Ice Cube and Public Enemy are among other Blacks labeled anti-Semitic. Presidents Barack Obama, John F Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, George H. Walker Bush have been painted with the anti-Semitic brush.
The charge isn’t related to attacks on Jews but is fired usually when someone balked at unbridled U.S. support for Israel, expressed concerns about Ethiopian Jews, raised a question about the treatment of Palestinians, pointed out Jewish wrongs or gotten a little too close to the Minister or the Nation.
“Today we are calling you out and asking you to use your inordinate power, because the God that we represent wants to crush you and your power. He’s here to bring in a brand new world and he has chosen the despised and rejected, the unloved and unwanted Black man and woman of America to be the cornerstone of a brand new reality,” said Min. Farrakhan.
In an interview with journalist Amy Goodman, former Israeli political leader Shulamit Aloni spoke frankly, saying the anti-Semitic tag is a “trick.” “And it’s very easy to blame people who criticize certain acts of the Israeli government as anti-Semitic and to bring up the Holocaust and the suffering of the Jewish people and that is to justify everything we do to the Palestinians,” said Ms. Aloni, an Israeli Jew and critic of the Zionist state.
Jewish groups stifle Black progress
In Washington, D.C., after the Muslims of the Nation’s Muhammad Mosque No. 4 brought peace to the violence ridden and open air drug market at the notorious Mayfair Mansions apartment complex, Jewish groups with attack dogs like Republican Representative Peter King of New York forced local public housing authorities to sever ties with a privately-owned security firm that emerged out of unarmed “Dopebuster” patrols. The late 1980s effort curbed open air drug dealing, violence and allowed for multi-million dollar public housing renovations in D.C., the work also spread to other cities.
Despite their great work, the companies were subjected to a congressional hearing and targeting.
“Calling the Nation ‘a hate group’ and its leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan, ‘a racist, Rep. Peter T. King (R., N.Y.) accused the firms of ‘proselytizing’ on the job, recruiting public housing tenants to Farrakhan’s gospel, and funneling government money to the Nation of Islam,” reported the Philadelphia Enquirer in March 1995. “But King had little proof, and company representatives at the hearing denied the allegations.”
And while Rep. King, with support from fellow Republicans Bob Barr (R., Ga.) and Dick Chrysler (R., Mich.), hurled the “hate group” slur at the Nation, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros said there was no such thing under federal law.
Targeting groups based on religion could endanger federal contracts let to groups like Catholic Charities and even the Jewish Anti-Defamation League, he warned.
Sec. Cisneros added that the FBI maintained a terrorist list but the Nation of Islam was not on the list.
Black lawmakers Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.) expressed concern about the 1995 hearing, warning of a near “witch hunt” of Believers in Islam.
The businesses subjected to scrutiny were NOI Security Agency of Washington; NOI Security Patrol Services Inc. of Baltimore, X-Men Security in New York and Chicago’s New Life Self Development Inc.
A favorable evaluation by HUD and Mr. Cisneros did not sit well with Jewish groups behind the House Banking and Financial Services Subcommittee on General Oversight and Investigations hearing.
The panel that testified against the Nation of Islam included Marc Stern of the American Jewish Congress, Jess Hordes and Meyer Eisenberg of the Anti-Defamation League and New York Assemblyman Jules Polonetsky.
Rep. Mfume noted that there were only Jewish critics of the companies on the panel.
The firms had some $10 million to $11 million in security contracts with local housing authorities, but money to pay for the contracts came from the federal government.
Prior to the hearing the ADL called the HUD investigation “inadequate, resulting in a whitewash of their (NOI) racism, bigotry and anti-Semitism.”
The HUD study, according to Sec. Cisneros, found the Muslim-owned firms working the housing complexes enjoyed the support of residents. The security forces “transformed … troubled, unsafe and drug-ridden housing developments into places where there are now low vacancy rates, safety and peace,” he said.
HUD also found each firm probed was a legal entity but that didn’t stop the demand that their contracts be canceled. In short order, the companies were let go. Violence, chaos and death quickly returned.
Min. Farrakhan had no financial interest or ownership in the companies, but the ADL and Jewish groups brought the groups to Capitol Hill for the hearing.
Local housing authorities were told point blank that vital federal funding would be withheld if the private businesses owned by Muslims were not turned out.
And while the ADL has called for government probing of the Nation of Islam, their infiltration of the Muslim movement goes back as far as 1942, when a Negro ADL infiltrator helped facilitate an FBI raid on the Chicago mosque resulting in 82 arrests. The ADL has also had its own problems with spying, which resulted in a scandal in 1993.
“ADL’s transgressions were most notably exposed in January 1993 when San Francisco newspapers broke the story of ADL’s extensive domestic spying network. The San Francisco Police Department discovered that under the cover of fighting anti-Semitism, the ADL had gathered and sold to intelligence agents of the Israeli and South African governments information on thousands of American individuals and groups,” reported Al Akhbar, which covers Palestinian and Arab news.
“In addition to nearly all Arab American organizations, those whom the ADL targeted included House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ron Dellums, former Congressman Pete McCloskey, Los Angeles Times correspondent Scott Kraft, the board of directors of public television station KQED, the Rainbow Coalition, a number of labor unions, Greenpeace, as well as numerous other journalists, professors, members of Congress, and activists who the ADL suspected had ‘anti-Israel’ leanings. The information which the San Francisco police department confiscated from the ADL offices included illegally obtained confidential police material. The manner by which the ADL obtained such information as well as the fact that they sold it to foreign governments are both felonies,” noted Al Akhbar.
The ADL was forced to pay fines of $150,000 for the legal violations, but a Center for Research report June 10 said the ADL spied on Arab student groups as early as 1969.
Today the Justice Dept. and the State Dept. have offices that combat anti-Semitism and are proud of their partnership with the ADL. “We cannot afford to dismiss this sad and dangerous reality. The battle against anti-Semitism must remain as vital and robust today as it has during the life of this great organization. In that effort you will find a committed and active ally in this attorney general,” said Eric Holder speaking April 29 at the ADL Centennial Summit.
Neither the Obama administration nor the attorney general has ever made such a strong and sweeping announcement about racism and Black suffering.
Attorney General Holder also noted how the ADL provides support and education to enforcement in partnership with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
“To date, more than 80,000 law enforcement officials – including all new FBI agents–have taken part in this training. At every level of today’s Justice Department, my colleagues and I have been proud to work with ADL in broadening the impact of your efforts,” said Mr. Holder.
According to Mr. Holder, between 2009 and 2012, his department convicted 141 defendants on federal hate crimes charges—an increase of more than 70 percent over the previous four years.
